Our History

Collendina Cricket Club

The Collendina Cricket Club was established in 1990 with the inaugural men's B grade side competing in the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association for the 1990/91 season.

As with the start of any successful club there is a beginning. In Leigh Norquay's own words:

"As most of us know, we usually make friends when you move to a new area through your children.

Nothing changed when we moved to Ocean Grove. One night while having drinks at Mick and Bernadette Kotiw's house, the conversation turned to cricket. A few beers later we were picking a side, working out where we were going to play and what we would call ourselves.

First call was to the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association to see if it was possible and then to find a side.

As Mick was director of the football umpires we soon had enough players along with a young Chris Pitfield.

The League in their wisdom put us in B Grade. The only problem was we played the A Grade side who had the bye each week.

So began the Collendina Cobras.

Leigh Norquay"

Collendina's first side in batting order was: Peter Rankin, Michael Kotiw, Jimmy Cook, Chris Pitfield, Leigh Norquay, Terry Carter, George Everett, Michael Osborne, Brad Wirth, Andrew Haines and Scott Mirable. Leigh Norquay was President, Secretary and Treasurer in that first year.

Fast forward 23 years and the Collendina Cricket Club is a successful and growing cricket club currently with 4 senior male, 7 junior and 1 women's cricket team.  It has won 2 A Grade men's premierships and 1 women's premiership (in its inaugural year in 2020/21) plus multiple lower grade and junior premierships.

In 2020/21 Collendina Cricket Club entered its first women's team into the Barwon Womens Cricket Competition and what a successful year it was. Under its inaugural Captain (former Cobras junior) Jess Ellwood led the Cobbies to premiership success. The inaugural team comprised: Jess Elwood, Jen Walsh, Bec Goring, Mon Beavis, Chloe Thompson, Carly Sanders, Beth Mason, Jade Murphy, Carly Norquay, Mel Briggs, Shereen Wolfe and Catherine Nicol.
